04. Januar 2019 : Journal paper accepted for publication in the journal “Technological Forecasting and Social Change”

The journal paper "Behind the scenes: Understanding the socio-technical barriers to BIM adoption through the theoretical lens of Information Systems research" by Thuy Duong Oesterreich and Frank Teuteberg has been accepted for publication in the journal “Technological Forecasting and Social Change”.

In this paper, the authors examine the most commonly reported barriers to a widespread adoption of Building Information Modeling (BIM) within the global AEC industry based on a cross-country meta-analysis. Drawing on socio-technical theory (STT) as well as the body of knowledge from the information systems (IS) research field, the paper aims to provide explanations for the causes of the barriers as well as an enhanced understanding towards possible solutions. Consistent with the empirical evidence suggested by previous research from the IS and BIM literature, the findings indicate that social factors relating to the “people” and the “structure” dimension of the BIM socio-technical system are the most important barriers to a widespread adoption of BIM.
